ASG departments and agencies have been asked to provide a complete list of all their employees with 30 or more years of service.

Governor Lolo Moliga says in a June 11 memo that in the administration’s ongoing efforts to explore practical avenues to reduce the overall cost of government operations, “we are taking a closer look at the current policy of the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund particularly fixing the calculation of retirement benefits to 30 years of service.”

At present ASG as the employer pays 8% while the employee contributes 3%.

The governor said in his memo, that to accurately determine the amount paid to the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund by those employees with 30 years of service and over, departments are to prepare a list of all their active employees with 30 or more years of service.

He set a June 30 deadline to submit the lists which he said was to facilitate possible development of policies to address this issue, which is “unnecessarily costing ASG money.

The governor also asked that departments validate the report with the Department of Human Resources and avoid subsequent verification to save time.
