Food prices dropped 0.2% in April

According to the latest Basic Food Index  from the Department of Commerce Statistics Division there was a drop of 0.2 in food prices for the month of April compared to March.

Seven major food outlets were selected for the monthly survey of commonly used food items.

According to the survey there was a drop in the price of ten food items.

They include chicken legs, fresh fish, rice, pork spare ribs, canned tuna, turkey tails, sugar, eggs, mayonnaise and butter.

The price of chicken legs dropped by 1.3%.

Only two food items cost more in April than in March: fresh milk and green bananas according to DOC.

There was a 2.3 % hike in the price of milk and a 2.6 % jump in the cost of green bananas.

The DOC survey doesn’t name the seven food outlets whose prices were surveyed.
