Samoa Police Service has warned fishermen around the country to be more vigilant of the dangers involved following the death of a 22 year old fisherman of Utuali’i village last Sunday.

TV1Samoa reports that three men had gone fishing and two came ashore safely after being separated from their fellow fisherman.

Initial police investigations found that the deceased was caught in the rising tide and apparently drowned.

Police are still continuing investigations but have warned fishermen not to fish alone and to be aware of tides at all times.

Meanwhile a formal inquest is to be held into the cause of death of an 8 yr old electrocuted at Tuaefu just after Cyclone Gita in February.

Family members told TV1Samoa that weeks before the electrocution they had reported several times, live wires dangling from an electricity pole which had been damaged by Cyclone Gita.

A date for the inquest has not been released yet.
