FEMA Administrator commends Lion’s Club

The official in charge of the Federal Emegrency Management Agency Region 9 which includes American Samoa, Robert Fenton was able to visit some of the homes and public facilities which were damaged by Tropical Storm Gita in February.

Fenton, who has been with FEMA for 22 years, was one of the guests of the 2018 Flag day celebration.

He has been administrator of FEMA Region 9 since 2015. 

Before Fenton departed the territory last night he was a guest speaker at a Lions Club meeting at Tradewinds.

Mr. Fenton praised the Lions Club for their volunteerism in times of disaster and emphasized that organizations such as theirs play an important role in helping a disaster area recover.

Mr. Fenton witnessed a special presentation by Lions President Lisa Tuatoo to two FEMA personnel who helped prevented a drowning at the Tradewinds Hotel pool earlier this month.

The two FEMA employees, Victor Inge and Dominic Del Vecchio, were presented hand carved hooks. 

The club also presented a carving for Mr Fenton in recognition of his outstanding leadership  for Gita.

At last night’s meeting the Acting Federal Coordinating Officer for FEMA discussed assistance programs that are available.

One is the Hazard Mitigation Program which awards dollars to make buildings, roads, utility facilities stronger and prevent damage in future disasters.
