With the arrival of ASG’s new tugboat Iseula, Port Administration is now in compliance with a US Coast Guard requirement to have two tugboats on hand to accommodate large tonnage vessels like tankers and cruise ships like the Queen Elizabeth II.

The Coast Guard had to issue a waiver and extensions to Port Administration to meet this requirement.

This was the impetus for the government to acquire funding to purchase the new tugboat which arrived in port on Wednesday morning.

Among the officials who witnessed the arrival was the Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Michael Long,

He told KHJ News that Port Administration is now in compliance with the tugboat requirements.

KHJ News asked Captain Long about a complaint of local port users regarding the one year tenure of Coast Guard lieutenants, which don’t allow for continuity.

We asked if there’s a possibility the tenure may be extended.
