Big jump in number of destroyed /damaged homes

Theres  been a substantial increase in the number of homes which were destroyed or damaged by Cyclone Gita last month.

A report by Public Works at the daily briefing at the Emergency Operations Center yesterday showed that the number of homes which were listed as  destroyed had risen to 387, up from just over 200 a few weeks ago.

The number of homes which suffered major damage is 1,253 and those with minor damages total 1,633.

The number of homes which were affected by the storm in some way according to the DPW report was 5462.

The registration schedule at the Disaster Recovery Center in Pago Pago for those who suffered damages and losses  is continuing:

Wednesday, March 21, is registration for  Nu’uuli numbers 0634 – 0731· and also Malaeimi Numbers  0001 – 0143·

For Thursday, March 22:  Ili’ili numbers 0001- 0261·

Friday, March 23, Pava’ia’i numbers 0001 – 0230·

Saturday, March 24, is the make-up day for those who weren’t able to register during the week from the villages of Nu’uuli, Malaeimi, Ili’ili and Pav’ia’i.

Meanwhile FEMA is winding down pre registration in villages for those whose homes were destroyed or significantly damaged.

An announcement from FEMA says the final day for pre registration in villages is Thursday, March 22.

Survivors from the village of Nu’uuli going west who missed their pre registration date should go to the Homeland Security Office Monday to Saturday next week.

Survivors from Fagananea to the east can pre register at the fales outside the DWYA Office in Pago Pago from Monday to Saturday.
