Several teachers face assault charges in Samoa

Samoan teachers are making the news this week, and it’s for all the wrong reasons.

A college principal has been charged for the indecent assault of a male student.

Samoa Police Service spokesperson Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo said in a statement that the principal will appear in court March 27 to answer to the charge against him.

That same day a graduate of the Congregational Christian Church Theological College, will appear for assaulting a student at Robert Louis Stevenson where he’s a teacher.

The alleged victim filed a complaint against the teacher last Friday and after initial investigations, police arrested and charged him with assault.

The defendant has been released at large to await his hearing.

Meanwhile two teachers from Avele College, a government high school in Apia, have been charged following investigations of complaints from students.

Auapa’au said the vice principal of the college has been charged with being a party to an offense by inciting a teacher to assault the students.

The teacher has been charged with assaulting the students.
