In an effort to provide a suitable setting that will be conducive to “rapid and orderly restoration and rehabilitation of persons and property affected” by Tropical Cyclone Gita, Governor Lolo Moliga has extended the state of emergency proclaimed February 9th, 2018 by a further 30 days effective March 12.

The declaration said there is still debris from damaged homes and uprooted trees and personal properties till littering the island.

This will also help as FEMA has just opened their Disaster Recovery Center to assist in the rebuilding process of people, property and businesses and public institutions.

Governor Lolo says there are hundreds of homes damaged and many families remain displaced.

He also said in the declaration that there is still a need for continued emergency powers to facilitate a speedy recovery and limit the loss of property and to protect the health of people.

Emergency powers of procurement and hiring and any other lawful emergency powers will remain in effect.
