The name Tuiloma Sina Retzlaff is well known in Samoa and the region for bringing awareness to the scourge of domestic and sexual violence against women and girls.
She spoke up publicly about her own experience with violence in the home and has been a vocal advocate for victims of such crimes.
She has been invited here by the Alliance for Strengthening Families to run workshops and be the keynote speaker at a forum that looks at the state of domestic violence in the two Samoa.
Tuiloma said on the Samoa Sunrise Show yesterday that they are discouraging character witnesses by church ministers or faifeau for defendants in cases of sexual assault involving minors because this usually results in reduced sentences for perpetrators.
