VI businessman calls local ulu flour “the best”

An entrepreneur from the Virgin Islands was visiting the territory to find out about locally produced ulu flour when Cyclone Gita struck.

Todd Manley, who is also a chef, says after two devastating hurricanes in the Virgin Islands and a major distillery company packed up, the US territory in the Caribbean started looking for new industries to prop up their economy.

Manley said the ulu or breadfruit was identified as a potential new industry.

The businessman came here especially to look at Rep Su’a Alexander Jennings’ ulu operation.

After trying flour produced by the Swains faipule, Manley is eyeing value added products that can be made using the local ulu flour.

Manley is adding local ulu flour in recipes for his restaurants.
