Red Cross supplies were delivered at four distribution centers today: Fagaima, Nu’uuli, Afono and Vatia.

KHJ News visited the distribution center at Nu’uuli village this afternoon and witnessed a large crown coming in to pick up their Red Cross supplies.

There were coolers, gas burners, tarps, batteries, blankets , one pillow each , and clean up kits.  The village mayors of Nu’uuli were present to direct residents who had already been identified according to destroyed, and partially damaged homes.

People had to provide IDs and register then pick up their supplies.

Some people from Malaeimi turned up at Nu’uuli but and some people showed up saying that no one every came to inspect their homes but they suffered damages.

Malia Viliamu  and Rosa Tapualii expressed their gratitude for the help they’ve received.

They said the roofs of their homes were partially damaged by Gita and all of their furniture and belongings got wet.

Mrs Viliamu, a mother of five said food, water and clothes were the most essential needs for her children.

She said her husband is the sole bread earner however he’s not working at the moment because his employer also suffered damages.

She’s grateful that her children are able to get breakfast and lunch at school.

Mrs Tapualii said her family is trying their best to patch up their damaged roof to protect their  house from the rain.  She was appreciative of the assistance from Red Cross.

The village mayors sent our members of the aumaga with a bullhorn to announce  the distribution of supplies.

Many of the residents said they had been listening to the radio for an announcement on when the distribution would begin however there was none.

The Red Cross had left it to the Emergency Operations Center to announce the distribution schedule.

But no specific details were included in the daily announcement from EOC yesterday regarding the four locations that distributed supplies today.

A member of the Governor’s Office staff from Nu’uuli went on V103 Radio and KSBS FM late this morning to alert people whose homes were damaged to come and pick up their supplies, from the Fanene guest house.

Also today was the beginning of installation of FEMA tents in these villages.

Four tent rental companies have been contracted to install the tents.

Two are working in the east side and the other two are installing tents in the western side of the island.
