A three year old of Vaitoloa, a village just on the outskirts west of Apia, Samoa, reportedly suffocated in a car last Friday.

The Samoa Observer reports that police spokesperson, Superintendent Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo, has confirmed an investigation is underway into the child’s death but did not give details.

A source said the baby boy was found in their family car in Vaitoloa.

Like most Samoa families where both parents work, the toddler had been left in the care of extended family members.

Police have indicated that no autopsy will be carried out.
