Only two elementary schools have no power and one is witout water but the Director of Education, Dr. Ruth Matagi Tofiga, is confident that the American Samoa Power Authority will have restored services to all three by this weekend.

The schools without power are Fagalii and Matatula and the school with no water is Siliaga.

Dr. Matagi Tofiga declares that school will be ready for class on Tuesday.

She complimented the clean up work on all campuses by the school leadership and staff working together with the Department of Public Works.

“They’ve done a wonderful job,” said the DOE Director.

Today, the shelter at Samoana High school was closed; the one at Tafuna Elementary closed yesterday.

Residents who were housed at Samoana High Schoo, according to the director, are mostly from Pago Pago.

Faith-based centers in Fagatogo,  Fagaalu and Pago Pago have been designated to house the displaced individuals.

ASG will continue to provide meals for them and departments/agencies like Procurement, Health and Human and Social Services are working together with ASVOAD , the coalition of non government organizations with disaster recovery responsibilities.
