ASEPA shuts down three water vending machines

The American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency has closed three water vending machines which tested positive twice as containing e-Coli bacteria.

The three are Chin Mart- Alofau, Happy Mart- Nu’uuli and Add One Store -Iliili.

ASEPA Director Ameko Pato says they have sealed the vending machines with yellow tape and the storeowners have to clean up the equipment before EPA retests them.

Initially there were five vending machines  that tested positive for e-Coli however  two were cleared in follow-up tests and were able to remain open.

Pato says they are over 80 active water vending machines on Tutuila.
