Funeral services are being held today for Rev. Elder Siaosi Ietitaia Mageo, one of the leaders of the Assembly of  God Church in American Samoa.

A Senate Concurrent Resolution paying tribute to his lifelong service to his church, family and the territory will be presented to his children during his funeral service.

Part of the resolution reads: “He was known for his forward and direct sermons which all knew would include a message of caution and often times and admonishment.

“Rev. Mageo cared little for what people wanted to hear and made sure people received what they needed to know.

“His children illustrate their father’s style of ministry as blunt and uninhibited. “

The senate concurrent resolution said Rev. Mageo was not afraid to speak the truth to the highest officials and would make sure to include the most common of people.

As described by his son Poe Mageo and echoed by his nephew Representative Veevalu Meauta Mageo, his boldness to speak the truth has earned him the respect from friends and foes, prime ministers and parents, bingo goers and drug addicts.

Rev. Elder Siaosi Mageo passed away December 29 at the age of 85.
