Fourteen nominated for Service Academies

Fourteen high school students from American Samoa have been nominated by Congresswoman Aumua Amata for the Service Academies for 2018.

The nominations were based on the students academic records, essays and letters of recommendation from their teachers, church leaders and local community leaders, along with the required verification that they have already applied to the academy or academies of their choice.

The service academies are fully funded federal colleges whose mission is to train future officers and leaders.

The nominees are Monique Hollister, Pita Lui, Ji Hyun Oh and Michelle Winsneke from South Pacific Academy;

Majesty Hunkin, Rita Jennings, Kilisi Satele, Deuteron Tafaovale, and Selaina Tuato’o of Fagaitua High School;

Chrsysolitetheresa Maiava of Manumalo Baptist;

Miriama Maiava of Samoana High School;

Nicole Semeatu of Tafuna High School;

James Wang of Pacific Horizon and 

Mutiatai Tulifua of Mount Vernon High School.

Congresswoman Aumua congratulated the nominees and said their nominations are a direct result of effort and excellent records.

She added that each of the nominees has already been a credit to their families, their schools and American Samoa.
