Governor issues ASG shutdown order

eob-7

If  a federal shutdown occurs, I hereby order the shutdown of all non-essential operations funded exclusively through federal sources, except for those services that may be exempted by the President of the United States.

That is a line from a January 18 memo issued by Governor Lolo Moliga in anticipation of a federal government shutdown set for 12:01 Saturday morning, January 20.

That’s when a continuing resolution to fund the federal government expires.

The subject of General Memorandum:006 is American Samoa Government Shutdown Order.

The governor said if the shutdown proceeds, he is compelled to apply this shutdown order on all federally funded ASG operations.

But these agencies are exempted from the shutdown order: the LBJ Hospital, American Samoa Community College, Department of Education and all first responders.

The governor said ASG personnel funded exclusively by federal sources, not including exempted agencies or personnel, are directly affected by this order and should therefore stay hoe from work.  Locally funded employees should be reassigned as necessary to ensure that department and agency services are not compromised.

The order takes effect immediately if the federal shutdown occurs over the weekend beginning January 20 and will remain until the Federal Shutdown order is lifted,.
