Commissioner of Public Safety Le’i Sonny Thompson informed KHJ News this afternoon that two of the escaped inmates have been recaptured.

Joe Iakopo and Naea Timata have been found and returned to the Tafuna Correctional Facility.

Ryan Pite and Joe Togitogi are still at large.

The manhunt for the missing inmates prompted the Department of Public Safety to set up roadblocks to search vehicles at several locations yesterday and this morning.

A motorist told KHJ News that as he was returning home after work yesterday there was a roadblock near the Satala power plant.

Cops told him to roll down the back windows to his car which he did.

Officers looked inside his car then let him go.

The driver said there was no explanation from police about what they were doing.

But he sensed that they were looking for someone.

Also during the day yesterday police were doing the same thing at Nu’uuli in front of CBT.

They were stopping all vehicles and looking inside

This morning in front of the Registrar’s Office in Fagatogo,  officers were stopping vehicles and shinning flashlights inside.

The Department of Public Safety appreciates the public cooperation and patience.
