According to a press release from the Shipyard Services Authority, a new two story building to house workshops that were previously scattered around the shipyard, should be completed in the last week of February.

This is the building which Senate President Pro Tem Nuanuaolefeagaiga Saoluaga Nua had queried in statements on the Senate floor last week.

The Manu’a senator asked what has become of the building project for which $1 million was allocated from the money raised from the sale of bonds for the American Samoa Economic Development Authority.

CEO of the Shipyard Services Authority, Moefaauo Bill Emmsley says construction of the building is well underway.

This will be a pre fabricated building,  It should be finished by February and barring any unforseen delays, is to be dedicated in mid-April.

The CEO  adds that the building project is on budget.

Moefaauo explains that the new facility replaces  four workshops built more than 60 years ago, which were dilapidated and unsafe.

In fact says the CEO, one of the biggest buildings on the premises has been unusable for a number of years, due to water inundation, when it rains.
