The American Samoa Power Authority Board of Directors has approved a recommendation from ASPA management to delay for six months a rate increase for waste water and solid wastes that was due to go into effect October 1st

This was announced by managing director of ASPA Paul Young at a meeting of the cabinet today.

Young said that the rate increase would have netter ASPA $844,000 a year.

He said the decision was made based on economic modeling showing that the increase would raise household expenditures and out of consideration of hard economic times the territory is in.

According to Young between FY 2016 and 2017 ASPA account receivables had risen 13-15 percent and this was attributed to the redu tion in hours of ASG employees.
