The Executive Director of the American Samoa Power Authority, Utu Abe Malae, says broadband access is one of the territory’s most pressing needs.

Speaking at the cabinet meeting yesterday, Utu said that he and the CEO of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority, Puleleiite Tufele Liamatua Jr., are working on options to obtain cheap reliable broadband for the territory.

He explained that broadband access is needed for telemedicine, education, epidemiological networking as well as connecting ASPA’s customer service data base or SMART Grid.
