Two Red Cross volunteers from American Samoa are waiting in the wings off-island for the official call for their assignment to the US east coast and/or Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands, to help with relief work in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

Val Tuilefano of the American Red Cross, American Samoa said the volunteers made their availability to deploy known prior to their departure from the territory a week ago.

One is awaiting their assignment call up in Honolulu and the other is waiting in Spokane, Washington.

Tuilefano said both will be recieving a call no later than September 19.

As for other local volunteers, possibly heading to the hurricane sticken areas, Tuilefano said if any are to be deployed they should get a call up by tomorrow Tuesday, September 19.

Those volunteers are being prepared by taking many disaster related training courses on line and reviewing disaster response fundamentals.

Governor Lolo Moliga had announced at the ASG Workforce Appreciation Day September 1st that the territory will take up donations for the hurricane victims.

Efforts to find out any further details from the Governor’s Office have not been successful.
