The Senate passed in final reading yesterday a bill which clarifies the area where campaign activities are prohibited on Election Day. The approval was unanimous.

The bill states that no campaign activities  shall be allowed within 200 yards or 600 feet surrounding the polling place on Election Day.

According to the measure, no person other than the district officials, candidates, their representatives, voters, or election officials may be permitted within the same area.

Any person except those persons described above, who remains or loiters within the area immediately surrounding a polling place during when the polls are opened or who fails to vacate the polling place and immediate surrounding areas when told by an election official, is guilty of a Class B misdemeanor.

Sponsors of the bill are Senators Nuanuaolefeagaiga Saoluaga, Magalei Logovi’i and Paepae Faiai.
