New Taputapu Elementary School opening soon

A new public school will be opened on the western end of the island when the new school year begins.

It’s Taputapu Elementary School which is now located in Fagalii.

Since the 2009 tsunami destroyed the old school in Poloa, students of Taputapu Elementary have been bused to Nua and Seetaga Elementary.

Program Director and District Leader of the Elementary Division, Mrs Puleai Aloese says the new Taputapu Elementary School would be opened at the end of this month.

Aloese told KHJ News that the current enrollment for the new school stands at a little over 70 from Levels 1-8.

Mr Etisone Taumua currently vice principal of Alataua Lua’ will be the new school principal of Taputapu.

Three contractors built the new school.

Quality Painting and Happy Trucking built two school buildings while RM Construction built an Early Childhood Education Center for Taputapu.
