Don’t let your guard down about dengue.

With schools starting up, health authorities are getting the word out that dengue numbers are up…139 confirmed cases and over 1,000 suspected cases.

The Department of Health is also monitoring the dengue situation in Samoa where two people are suspected to have died from the mosquito borne disease.

Department of Health Epidemiologist Scott Anesi urges the public to take charge of protecting their families from dengue as there is no cure.

He gave this advice on how to take care of dengue patients.

DOH and the LBJ Hospital recommend treatment at home with plenty of fluids, rest and Tylenol for 2-3 days.

If you feel you are not getting better or if you have other ailments in addition to dengue, it’s best to see the doctor.

To alleviate crowding at the LBJ Hospital, residents are urged to make use of the Community Health Centers.
