SFC Albert Chung, a Recruiter with Attention to Detail

Army Recruiter Sergeant First Class Albert H. Chung was remembered at a solemn service today at the Army Reserve Center .

The single, 33 year old, had come here to assist with processing of new US Army recruits but drowned while snorkeling at Alega Beach on August 6.

The memorial service was attended by members of the 79R Career Recruiter, leaders and local army reservists and retired soldiers like former commander, Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, Tauapa’i Laupola and military retirees.

Also paying their respects were the owners of Tisa’s Barefoot Bar, Tisa Faamuli & Candyman.

The prayers of retired US Army Chaplain, Rev. Fouvale Asiata, now the CCCAS minister at Matuu and Faganeanea, provided comfort.

SFC Chung’s biography was recited by one of the commanders.

Comrades, SSG. Nam Kim and Capt. Kurt Diaz reflected on their personal and professional relationships with Chung describing him as a reserved and quiet individual with a meticulous mind.

The commander described SFC Chung as a leader who took care of his soldiers and paying attention to small details.

SFC Chung had been in the Army for 14 years.

He was the Center Leader at the Korea Center Guam Company, Portland Recruiting Battalion.

Among his many awards are: the Army Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal 3 Combat Star and Non commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.

His body is being flown home to California tonight.
