The Retirement Fund Office is hoping that newspaper ads with the names of members whose accounts have been inactive for years, will prompt  the owners of those accounts to come forward.

If they don’t, their retirement contributions will be forfeited to the Fund.

Executive Director of the Retirement Fund Iaulualo Talia Faafetai says the combined value of the inactive accounts is about $300,000.

He suspects some of the people who haven’t contributed to the Fund in years, have passed away or have moved off island.

Iaulualo is surprised with the number of inactive accounts with the Retirement Fund.

He says when they publicized the list of inactive Retirement Fund accounts last year they got good response.

He said the Retirement Fund Office will recognize the owner of the account or a next of kin who is named as a beneficiary.

The office will also consider special circumstances if the person responding to the ad about inactive accounts is neither the owner of the account or a named beneficiary,

The ad with the list of inactive Retirement Fund accounts has been running in the Samoa News .
