Dengue fever is on the increase in the territory.

In the one week period from July 6 to the 17 there were 43 suspected cases of dengue fever seen at the LBJ Hospital and community health centers.

And there were 15  confirmed dengue cases in the same time period.  Previously there were one or two confirmed dengue  cases per month.

The confirmation is from laboratory work on samples sent to Honolulu for testing.

Physicians at LBJ Hospital say they are seeing approximately 30-50 cases with symptoms related to dengue per month.

This includes follow up for positive testing and IV rehydration.

A senior nurse told KHJ news that the number of patients with dengue like symptoms or tested positive for dengue, admitted to LBJ per month is 10-15 cases .

Physicians say they are beginning to see an increase again since last month.

The Department of Health’s latest report on dengue indicates that the most affected county is Ituau.

Meanwhile due to funding constraints, DOH has discontinued its ad campaign in the media on dengue, Zika and other mosquito borne diseases.
