Lt. Governor: We Want to Be Like Singapore

Lt Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga welcomed delegates to the 104th conference of the Association of Pacific Ports at the Lee Auditorium this morning, telling them not to let the windy and wet weather get in the way of enjoying American Samoa.

An invocation by Rev Iasepi Ulu of the CCCAS Fagatogo and beautiful singing by  the CCCAS Petesa Youth had the delegates from western states, the US Pacific territories and representatives of shipping companies, fuel suppliers and other participants in awe.

Port Director Taimalelagi Dr. Claire Poumele, President of the Association of Pacific Ports in her opening remarks said as hosts American Samoa wanted to highlight its youth.

Lt. Governor Lemanu in preparing his speech learned that Singapore was rated the number one port in the world.

He said member states and territories needed to learn what Singapore was doing correctly.

Ports Conf Petesa uta

The CCCAS Petesa youth gave a welcoming song, a brief sasa and mauluulu and topped off with Miss American Samoa Antonina Lilomaiava performing the taualuga.

During self introductions, it was evident from the remarks of off island delegates that the young performers and the hospitality of the conference hosts had left a good impression.

The conference continues until Friday.
