Land Grant hosts Safety Day

safety-day

The Annual American Samoa Community Progressive Agriculture Safety Day held yesterday has students and a few parents leaning about of the cool things happening at the Community and Natural Resources Division of Land Grant at ASCC.

Students aged 5-13 learned about chemical safety, first aid, food safety, taking care of animals and safety tips for use and storage of tools that are common in households.

The Community and Natural Resources Division partners with agencies such as  the American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency, and Emergency Medical Service of LBJ Hospital,  putting up booths and doing demonstrations.

Coordinator Amio Mavaega Luvu says their mission is to be safe and be alert at all times.

Throughout the year, they do presentations for elementary schools and in the summer they host the program for the community.

This is the 12th year of the Annual American Samoa Community Progressive Agriculture Safety Day and as in previous years the one day event was an enjoyable learning experience for the children and the parents that came along.
