Close to 100 employees of the Department of Health breathed a sigh of relief Friday when they were finally issued paychecks they were supposed to receive last Monday.
Affected employees were those working at the community health centers at Tafuna, Leone, Amouli and Manu’a, who were all paid by federal grants.
When they didn’t receive their direct deposits on the weekend or their paper checks on Monday, they were promised they would get them in the supplemental run on Tuesday.
Up to Friday morning, with Fathers Day approaching, the employees were still waiting for their checks.
Their luck arrived just before noon Friday.
As KHJ News was seeking comments from Deputy Director of Health Papalii Marion Fitisemanu about the missing paychecks, he said checks were being distributed as we spoke.
Papali’i said the delay was not due to the Department of Health.
Rather it was an issue between the Budget Office and Treasury though he didn’t give any details.
