Two months have passed and mum’s still the word on a vehicle that Customs is not releasing because of the discovery of contraband in the car.

Acting Chief of Customs Keith Gebauer said in response to KHJ News inquiries that as far as Customs is concerned their investigation is completed and the case has been handed to the Department of Public Safety.

He said DPS now has jurisdiction in this matter.

For now the Jeep Cherokee is still in the Customs warehouse,

Efforts to get a hold of Commissioner of Public Safety Lei Sonny Thompson have not been successful.

However when KHJ News asked Le’i a few weeks ago about the status of the investigation, he said it should be completed within a week.

Asked for his reaction to a comment by House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale  that the investigation was taking too long, the Commissioner responded that everybody’s entitled to their opinion but they will have to wait for  the outcome of the probe.

The Speaker confirmed that the vehicle which was held by customs belonged to his son in law.  The vehicle was imported under the Speaker’s name.

Customs sources have confirmed that the reason why the vehicle was not released was because an inspection found ammunition and a vapor chemical which yielded positive results for an ingredient in marijuana, THC.
