2 Samoas Talk Weather, Disaster Preparedness

With the tropical cyclone season now behind us, weather forecasters from the two Samoa are meeting today and tomorrow to go over lessons that can be learned from the just concluded season.

Samoa and American Samoa have been holding these annual exchanges since 1999 with the aim of improving the dissemination of weather information , prepare residents for disasters and also enhance the capability of staff in the two Samoa in meteorology, disaster management, climate change analysis and other such fields,

The National Weather Service in Tafuna and the Department of Homeland Security are hosting a six member delegation from Samoa, led by CEO of the Samoa Meteorological Service Mulipola Ausetalia Titimaea to te two day talks.

An opening ceremony was held this morning at the Tradewinds Hotel Naumati Room  at which Acting Meteorologist-acting in charge at the National Weather Service Salu Hans Malala welcomed the delegation from Samoa and thanked funders who have facilitated the two Samoa discussions which are now held twice a year…first before the tropical cyclone starts and after each cyclone season..

Attending the talks with staff of the Department of Homeland Security and the National Weather Service are House Representatives Meauta Mageo and Fagaotaua Dorian Salave’a.
