There’s been no word from Treasury as to when the next regular non faalavelave batch of tax refunds will be release.
Every day, KHJ News receives calls from members of the public asking if we have received a notice from Treasury that tax refunds will be disbursed.
A woman caller said earlier this week, she goes to the EOB daily to try and find out word on when refund checks will be issued.
But no one can give her a straight story,
She was hopeful refund checks will be out in time for graduation but she’s losing hope.
KHJ News sought answers from the Tax Office as the Treasurer Ueligitone Tonumaipe’a never takes or returns phone calls.
We were told that refund checks have been prepared but only when the Treasurer says it’s okay, they will be released.
According to staff, the Treasurer was in today but left in the afternoon without giving any indication when the checks will be released,
Last week we reported that Governor Lolo put a stop to expedited tax refund checks for those claiming emergency needs. The governor said that there have been complaints about favoritism in the process.
He ordered that from now on all refund checks will be issued based on the date of filing.
