Suggestions on how to use the ASG property in Tonga will be submitted to Governor Lolo Moliga following a visit to the property by a delegation that Lolo sent to Nukualofa.

The officials who held discussions in Tonga about the property were Director of Commerce Keniseli Lafaele, Paul Young Managing Director of the American Samoa Power Authority and the governor’s liaison to Tonga Sione Kava.

Lafaele says recommendations on use of the land in Tonga will focus on fostering viable trade and commerce between the Kingdom of Tonga and American Samoa.

He said once the governor makes a decision on use of the land, ASG will take the necessary steps to develop the property.

The land was acquired through land swap with Tonga during the administration of the late Governor Aifili Paulo Lutali.

The Tongan Government land is in Tafuna near the Tafuna Health Center and an agricultural and handicraft market is built at the site.

While in Tonga, the Director of Commerce held discussions discussed arrangements for a trade mission from Tonga to visit the territory Lafaele says Tonga is very keen on visiting the territory- sooner than later, and actual dates are being firmed up.

Also on ASG’s agenda was for Tonga to send its vessels to be repaired at the Ronald Reagan Marine Railway in Satala.

The DOC Director said he met with Tonga’s minister of public enterprises and other key officials,  and ship repair was included in their talks about trade in goods and services.

Commenting on their visit to Tonga, Lafaele said their delegation was well received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Land and Natural Resources, Ministry of Public Enterprises, Tonga Electric Commission, Tonga’s forestry and milling company, chairman of Tonga’s Tourism Authority, and a couple of key members of the Tongan business community.
