The selection of the next Western District Governor may not be a done deal.

KHJ News has learned from sources in the realm of ranking chiefs from counties in the western side of the island,  that as of yesterday only five leading matai had signed the certification document verifying that Tuiasina Esera had been selected to be the new district governor

There were more than 20 chiefs attending the meeting at Vailoa on Monday to discuss the vacancy created by te passing of the late WDG Lualemaga Faoa,

Paramount Chief and Senator Satele Galu Satele made the decision to have a matai from his village of Vailoa , former Senator Tuiasina Esera continue the term of the late Lualemaga.

And except for PC Satele, no other top tier matai from the Western District had put their signature to the document.

And other ranking chiefs of Vailoa village had also not signed the certification document.

Sources tell KHJ News that even county chiefs from the district have not added their signatures which has been interpreted to mean that they are not happy with the selection of Tuiasina or how he was picked.

It remains to be seen how this apparent shortfall in signatures will play out.

The Secretary of Samoan Affairs must be satisfied that the selection of Tuiasina was legitimate and has the consensus of ranking chiefs of the district.
