Here’s news that many have been waiting for. Treasury is releasing the first and second batch of tax refund checks tomorrow.
A notice from Treasurer Ueligitone Tonumaipea late yesterday afternoon that the first and second batch of refund checks will be released tomorrow March 17.
The total amount of checks out tomorrow is $1.385,588.
The US Treasury is paying additional Child Tax Credit refunds totaling $913,146 and the balance of $472,442 is covered by ASG.
The filing dates for refunds that will be issued tomorrow are January 4-25th.
Treasurer Tonumaipe’a says always keep in mind your filing date, that is when and how the batches or tax refunds are disbursed.
He thanks the public for their patience.
The filing of 2016 taxes started in the first week of January with cannery employees among the first to file.
Many people who claimed they had emergencies or faalavelave such as funerals, an illness requiring off island treatment, or other such obligarion had their tax refund checks expedited.
These were approved by Treasurer Tonumaipe’a and his Deputy Treasurer Tina Vaa.
However KHJ News received complaints which were verified by senior ASG officials that the faalavelave refund checks were released to known administration supporters and those close to the Treasurer and his deputy.
Some who also claimed faalavelave , said their refund checks were not released.
