If you see students of Matafao Elementary being led out of class to higher ground Thursday afternoon , don’t be alarmed.
That’s a disaster preparedness exercise for the school and its simulating a tsunami evacuation.
The exercise is conducted by the Samoa Department of Homeland Security / TEMCO Division today from noon to 1 pm.
The highway will be closed temporarily for the safety of children crossing the road, and you are advised to plan ahead so you wont be caught up in traffic.
The goal of the tsunami evacuation drill is to evaluate the Emergency Operation Plan for Matafao Elementary School.
Again do not be alarmed, it’s just an evacuation drill.
