About 178 students will be taking a virtual dive in the unexplored seafloor of waters surrounding American Samoa, specifically the Marine Sanctuary area in Ta’u and Rose Atoll Marine National Monument.

The students will be at the Tauese P Sunia Ocean Center and will watch on a big screen scientists on board the research vessel Okeanos discuss their work and what has been discovered in their expedition so far.

The team has already seen deep sea corals and sponge habitats, unusual fish, hydro-thermal vents and sea mounts.

There will be a question and answer session with the scientific team that’s conducting the expedition

The event takes place at 11 this morning at the Tauese Pita Sunia Ocean Center and is also open to the public.
