Tongans mourn passing of Queen Mother

Tongans in the territory are mourning the passing of the Queen Mother, Her Majesty Halaevalu Mata’aho,  who passed away over the weekend in Auckland, New Zealand.

She was 90.

Her body is to be flown to Tonga on Tuesday and be laid to rest at the Royal Tombs on Wednesday March ist.

Royal residences and the homes of Tongans in Auckland have put up drapes in mourning colors to show their respect for the Queen Mother, who was wife of His Majesry King Tupou IV and the mother of his successors – Tupou V and Tupou VI.
