ASTCA employee dies while responding to trouble call

An employee of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority who was responding to a trouble call over the weekend was found dead at Afono on Sunday.

According to relatives, the employee was responding to a call about downed phone lines and was by himself.

He apparently died of an illness.

The deceased was from the village of Fagatogo,.

In other news , a family of six in Nuuuli had to move in with relatives after their home lost its roof during strng winds on Sunday,

According to a report from the Emergency Operations Center,  first responders helped secure the family’s belongings.

Noone was injured and the family is staying with relatives.

Several landslides were reported Saturday and Sunday in the villages of Asili, Alega, Poloa, Fagasa anad Pago Pago.

For  today, the National Weather Service has a small craft and high surf advisory in effect.

The wind advisory is also continued but is expected to be lifted this afternoon.

The monsoonal trough that’s  causing the wet and windy conditions is moving towards the south and its impact is diminishing.
