Remembering Francis Antonio “Doc” Foma’i

The owner of Doc’s Gym, in Lepuapua, one of the first exercise and body building facilities in the territory, Francis Antonio Foma’i Leoso, passed away at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu on January 7.

Sports teams, fautasi crews, body builders and  exercise enthusiasts will recall early morning and evening aerobics at Doc’s Gym, “Doc” being Francis Foma’i.  His easy going manner and friendliness attracted many individual and group customers.

The Doc’s Gym building in Lepuapua , now a rental property, houses several small businesses.

Doc Foma'iDoc was a well known figure in his villages of Lepuapua and Leone because of his support of many sports and village activities.

His daughter Rosita said it was his father’s wish that he be laid to rest at his residence in Lepuapua and they will be bringing him home.

Francis “Doc” Foma’i is survived by his wife, Anita Faatamalii Salave’a, 16 children and 11 grandchildren.
