A man who was in court for an alleged shooting in Vaitogi over the weekend tested positive for methamphetamine, a violation of his probation.

Vise Gauta has several criminal records and had appeared Tuesday before District Court Judge Fiti Sunia for the shooting incident.

His father in law, Fata Solomona Siaumau, was also in court for the same incident, but he was released per instruction of Judge Sunia because of lack of documentation to state why Fata was brought before the court.

As for Gauta, after the probation officer reported before the court that he tested positive for drugs, the defendant was ordered to be remanded back in the custody of the police.

An inspector of the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau said that she cannot confirm if Gauta has been re-arrested.

Michael Agasiva, who is facing new charges of sexual abuse, burglary, trespassing and third degree assault. has retained private attorney Sharron Rancourt to represent him in his latest court case.

Agasiva, who is well known to the court and jail system, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her early 50s said to be a relative.

The alleged incident occurred at a family new year’s party.

If found guilty of all charges, the defendant could spend more than 10 years in prison.
