Owner of Le Aute Gets 90 Day Jail Term

The purported owner of the infamous Le Aute Pool Hall & Bar, the scene of a police raid two years ago, began serving a three month jail sentence at the Territorial Correctional Facility today.

The High Court sentenced Tumuatasi Leafatia, also known as Mama, to one year imprisonment, but the sentence was suspended on condition that she serve 90 days in jail, with credit for pre trial confinement at TCF.

Chief Justice Michael Kruse , also ordered the defendant to pay $1,000.

Leafatia was charged with possession of unlawful controlled substances namely ice, possession with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of a prohibited weapon, a semi automatic pistol, found at the Aute Bar,

These were rounded up during a police raid of the Aute Bar in March of 2015.

Earlier the Chief Justice explained the definition of “possession” in reference to what was found at Le Aute during the raid, to government prosecutor, Assistant Attorney General Bob Pickett and defense attorney Sharron Rancourt.

With all of the evidence confiscated from the 2015 raid of Le Aute displayed on the evidence table the Chief Justice said whatever is in his house is in his custody and control.

He said based on the Probation Officer’s testimony, defendants in felony cases have indicated they have used proceeds of their stealing activities to buy drugs from the Aute Bar.

Among conditions of her sentence is that Leafatia will be randomly subjected to searches for drugs, drug paraphernalia, and fire arms, she is banned from using any controlled substance, and cannot congregate with people in possession of, consuming or desiring drugs.

Leafatia was also ordered to see the probation officer once a month.

The High Court ordered the destruction of all the evidence seized during the 2015 raid except for the cash.
