The first fund raising event for the Research Foundation of the American Samoa Community College is a golf tournament to be held around the same time that the college will open its multi purpose hall which has been under construction for about two years.

The Research Foundation is the fundraising arm of the college but since it was authorized by law except more than a decade ago, it hasn’t been active except for a few art auctions and concerts.

But with some of the federal grants for ASCC expiring soon, and the college apparently facing challenges with new grant applications, the foundation is being revived to raise much needed dollars for the territory’s only institution of higher learning.

The college’s fiscal situation is also impacted by ASG’s inability to pay mandated subsidies to ASCC, though this has not been mentioned in reports presented at cabinet meetings.

The ASCC multi purpose hall, built by Paramount Builders, is to be dedicated in March.

College President Dr. Rosevonne Pato says they are planning their fundraising golf tournament to be held around that time.

Dr. Pato said at last week’s cabinet meeting, ASCC is working closely with Public Works , American Samoa Power Authority and the American Samoa Telecommunication Authority on installation of utilities in the new building.

In the new year, ASCC plans to open a new trade school.

The new semester at the college begins January 17th and registration will be from January 11th to the 13th.
