Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson was unable to make the special screening of Moana last night at Apollo Cinemas in Apia but he sent a home made video which was shown  at the by invitation only event.

The Rock, who’s the voice of the semi God Maui in the Disney runway success, apologized that he couldn’t make it to last night’s showing because he is currently promoting the movie New York.

He said that he wished he could be present to watch the movie with the gathering but said, “I’m working.”

The Rock said he watched Moana with his  family and loved it, adding, “we are so proud to be able to show you guys there.”

“As we say because it’s in our blood and in our culture.”

Then he let out his best Cheeeeeehooo to the loud applause of guests.

In her remarks, Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana talked about the joy of learning other cultures and her experience of working with Disney.

Guests included Samoa’s Head of State Tuiatua Tamasese Efi, and people and organizations who helped the Disney producers and directors when they were doing research for the film.

An invited guest said, “It’s nice of Disney to recognize Samoa and Samoan involvement in the making of this film.

The audience was taken by the “maturity” shown by  16 year old Aulii.

“She has gotten into this promotional circuit with such maturity and finesse like a seasoned campaigner,” said one of the guests.

The Disney crew hosts a creative workshop at the National University of Samoa this afternoon which is  open to the public.
