Talofa Airways has received clearance from the Tonga Government to begin flights to the kingdom.

Airline President Toleafoa Jeffrey Hunter says on November 24, Tonga granted Talofa Air a foreign air operator certificate to operate scheduled and charter flights to Tonga.

By the time approval was granted , the Apia based airline had already set its holiday flight schedule.

Toleafoa says they had plans to operate this Tonga service before the end of the year, unfortunately their schedule for the Christmas and New Year season between the two Samoas had to be finalized for sale at the beginning of November.

Talofa was therefore not able to change its flight schedule to include flights to Tonga since all their Christmas and New Year flights have been sold.

The airline president said, “As much as we had anticipated the start of our service to Tonga before the end of the year, we need at least two months to organize and publicize the beginning of our Tonga service.”

Toleafoa says they anticipate starting flights to Tonga in January of next year.

Flights will be between Pago Pago – Vavau – Fagalii and vice versa the following day at least twice a week to start with.

Toleafoa said flights to the main Island Tongatapu will be carried out by Tonga’s domestic airline.

Talofa will arrange to sell airline tickets together with the Tonga domestic airline in Apia and Pago Pago and in Tonga through Tonga domestic airlines and selected travel agents.

The airline apologizes it’s not able to begin the new flight service to Tonga at this time, but plans to inaugurate service in the beginning of 2017.
