Customers of the American Samoa Power Authority will see an increase in their water and solid waste rates in their November billing, which was out last week.

The increases are part of the 2nd phase of the American Samoa Power Authority’s rate plan that went into effect last year.

A public hearing was held in late 2014 regarding ASPA’s incremental rate plan.

Effective this month, customers will pay $20.05 for the groundwater protection fee, an increase of $2.99. For all other rate classes, the volume charge for wastewater has gone up by 34 cents, from $1.94 to $2.28.

For solid waste services, the new rate for residential home collection and village bins will be $11.98 per month, an increase of 58 cents.

Small General Service customers will actually see a drop of $5.75 in their solid waste rate, from $57.50 to $51.75.

Large general service customers however will pay $399.14 per month for solid waste service, an increase of $7.83.

Another incremental rate increase for ASPA will happen next year for water, wastewater and solid waste.

ASPA said in an announcement on their website that the implementation of the new rate plan for the respective services will fund expansion and maintenance costs for these services in order to continue to provide quality service to our customer.
