The start of a new police academy for the Department of Public Safety has been pushed back in order to select more police recruits before classes begin.

Twelve candidates were picked from among 30 applicants who responded to ads and passed interviews.

The group went through an orientation on Wednesday with a plan to start classes today.

However according to  Commander Terry Letuli who heads the Training Division of the Department of Public Safety, the decision has been made to delay the start and advertise for more recruits.

He says they are looking for 10 more candidates.

The Department of Human Resources will advertise the slots and the successful applicants need to pass an entrance exam.
