Sixteen Dialysis Unit chairs from the LBJ Hospital will be shipped to the health centers in Manu’a, according to the  Chief Executive Officer of LBJ Hospital, Taufete’e John Faumuina.

Taufetee reported at last week’s cabinet meeting that LBJ is seeking help from the Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua and Manu’a lawmakers for personnel who will look after the dialysis chairs in Manua.

According to the CEO, LBJ is not giving the Department of Health total control of the planned dialysis services in Manu’a, DOH is providing space for the Dialysis Unit.

Taufetee said LBJ needs to complete certain steps before the 16 chairs which are from the old LBJ Dialysis Unit can be shipped to Manu’a but did not elaborate.

As listeners would recall, a surprise visit by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Service, CMS, earlier this year found many instances of non compliance particularly with the Dialysis Unit

LBJ had to submit a plan of corrective action to address the conditions found  otherwise CMS would terminate its certification, jeopardizing funding from the federal agency.

Taufetee reported at the cabinet meeting that up to now, CMS, has not responded to LBJ’s report and he told the meeting CMS may make an unannounced visit.
